I am incredibly grateful to have heard from so many about their struggles with forgiveness, from both sides.

Many of us struggle with forgiveness, often with comments such as “What they did was unforgivable” or “It is just too hard to let go”. But here is the thing, any argument against forgiveness is our ego whispering words through justifiable anger, the ego’s defense against fear. Fear that we will be vulnerable and could get hurt, humiliations, embarrassment, loss, etc.

I used to hold on to anger, justify it especially when someone hurt a friend or loved one, until I noticed what it was doing to me. What it was costing me. It cost me the ability to be vulnerable with those closest to me because it is hard to take the walls completely down just to rebuild them over and over.

One day a friend was talking a story of the two wolves. I didn’t want to seem dumb, so I just nodded like I knew it. Afterwards I looked it up, and in reading it I began to cry. I was shaken to understand that I was feeding the very wolf that was causing me to be afraid of who I really was, afraid of my own power. Terrified that I would hurt someone when I couldn’t keep the rage contained.

The Story of Two Wolves: Abbreviated Version

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight, and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”

He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

Which wolf are you feeding?

Are you ready to let go?

Are you ready to step into your Light?

Brightest of blessings,
