Patience is not my strong suit!
One thing I recognize about myself is that patience may be a virtue, but it is not one of my strengths. And although I have come a long way in being more compassionate and patient with others, I can be hard on myself.
I used to be downright abusive in my self-talk. I would be passive aggressive with myself, blame and shame, judge and resent. Especially when it comes to my personal growth.
Here is what I have been shown. It is not enough to learn something new to create a new habit or way of being. There is also an unlearning and letting go in the process, and it often gets skipped.
The old recording
Remember the old VHS tapes that you could record on? Imagine you are recorded on a tape, all your memories which have created your habits, prejudices, and conditioning. One day you become aware of these and decide to record over them with new beliefs and behaviours.
WARNING! If you just record over the old video, ghost imprints of the previous recording will come through.
So, it only makes sense that we would need to first erase the old, through forgiveness, compassion, self-awareness and understanding. It can take a bit of time, but really it is more about effort and will. We must have patience with ourselves and start our journey from this moment.
Once we start letting go of the residue of past experiences and perceptions we automatically begin to see and experience life through new eyes. Our vision clears.
There are many obstacles on the spiritual path. But these obstacles are meant to strengthen us, and we cannot overcome them without infinite patience.
What do you need to let go of, to forgive, so that you can see the person you truly are?
My wish today is for patience. To have patience with myself and others as we heal and let go.
In this story, the Princess saves herself.
