Meet the Wounded Storyteller!
Welcome to Coming Through the Darkness, a blog about one woman’s journey as a wounded storyteller – life after concussions.
Hi, my name is Dawn!
Up until 2017 I was a high functioning AAA-type personality with control issues. I was always on the go and prided myself on my intellect and drive. 5 years ago, in October of 2017, I was in two car accidents six days apart which would leave me with a concussed brain. Fourteen months later I would be in a vehicle that was rear ended. The worst thing that can happen to a concussed brain is another hit!
Due to the brain injury I would lose myself, many of my identities – a powerful business woman, super-mom, multi-tasker (yes, I actually was), leader, runner, hiker, and so much more. I would have to learn how to grieve the death of each aspect of myself – some I am still moving through – and learn how to be at peace with the present moment (sometimes I rock it, other times not-so-much!).
If you have a concussion or know/love someone who does, my hope is that sharing my journey will help you know you are not alone, you are not crazy, and you do matter!
Let us begin, again…
Brightest of blessings,
